My lab pointer likes to nip and bite, she’s a very frolicsome dog but what she doesn’t realize is that her little nips and bites can do some damage to my skin and other peoples’ skin.  Though nipping and biting is fun and harmless in a puppy dog or kitten, it is not when a full-grown dog with full-grown fangs does it. 

It is very important to keep your pet under control and educate them when they are young so they know what behavior is sufficient and what isn’t.  Worse yet, if your pet starts off believing that nipping and biting is O.K it can become more assertive behavior, so to stop the nipping and biting by following these steps. 

One way to stop your pet’s continual nipping and biting is to provide them with enough toys that they can play with and put in their mouth.  When my dogs were puppies I regularly let them bite or nip on my fingers you do not need to permit them to do this all the time because they will think your fingers are there for them to chew.  Providing them with enough toys to pinch and bite gets their mind off of your fingers.  For dogs, rubber toys or rawhide bones are ideal for them to munch.  For pussies, a rag or play mouse is ideal for them to play with. 

The next time your pet tries to nip or bite your fingers, let out a yap similar to the sound of another animal.  If your pet believes they have hurt you, they’ll realize that biting or nipping at your fingers is not a good thing to do.  They may even lick your fingers.  When your pet stops after your howl, make sure you give them a nice pat or a treat. 

This next strategy always worked for me.  A simple, loud, and firm NO! And ignoring them for a few minutes always appeared to do the job.  The firmness and gravity of your voice will alert your pet to the undeniable fact that biting and nipping on you isn’t acceptable.  And when you stop playing with them they feel ignored and eventually will associate your sadness with their nipping and biting.  You may grab their collar, look them forcefully in the eye and shake them strictly informing them who the manager is.

3.  Never punish or scold your dog under training.  A punishment will put in negative feelings into your dog. 

4.  Finally, penalize your dog for not behaving, now this doesn’t imply punish, there is a difference.  Penalize your dog by taking away something or do something that she does not like like a jerk of the leash.

We need our puppies to get comfortable within their crates.  We do not would like them to feel surrounded and unwanted when we crate them while we’re employed.  To stop mistakes during Doberman training, let us follow these simple do’s and don’ts while we are at it. 

Do’s During Crate Training

1.  Start as quickly as possible

Start your training the instant you bring your puppy home.  Any Doberman training is best started while your dog is a young pup.  They’re more submissive and they haven’t fixed in their tactics compared to a mulish willful adult Doberman. 

2.  Measure the size in an appropriate way. 

The crate should not be too small for your dogs.  They feel besieged and suffocated in little crates.  Dobermans stands up to 2 to 2.5 feet tall.  There should be adequate room for your dog to turn around and stand.  Think about this data when you get your crate. 

3.  Use simple commands while training. 

You could either use “To your crate” or “In your house” when you crate educate them.  Later, they will associate the phrase with getting within their crate and they will make a response to the command. 

4.  Put rags and toys. 

Make the crate snug.  Place some blankets or clean rags for your baby dog to lie on.  Provide gnaw toys or ball for your little puppy to play while he is inside.

2.  Don’t offer food and water. 

The bias is when you place food and water, you don’t take them out after but rather you just refill it.  Food and water are good medium for bacterial growth and sicknesses.  Apart from that, if you place food inside and leave them, dogs sometimes poop mins after they eat.  If they cannot hold their bowel anymore, they might soil their dog house crates. 

3.  Do not leave your dogs within for dull hours. 

Leaving them inside their crates most hour of the day would make them feel cut off and forsaken.  If you’re working and wishes to keep the dog inside for at least 8 hours, organize somebody to provide your dog food, water and potty break.

To get your Doberman to go get an object, known as a “dumbbell,” and hold it until you give the command to “give” it back, say “take it ” and then gently open his mouth and put the object just behind his fangs say “hold”.  Now hold his gob closed and say “hold” again.

A few dogs that are rescued look for physical interaction from the beginning. Many others will take longer. But once you have established it, try to roll the dog over onto his back and place your hand on their chest. You will have two possible reaction, either resistance from an aggressive dog or fearful acceptance from a passive dog. Neither behavior is good. Forcing an aggressive dog into a submissive position is done under normal training. This technique typically does not work for rescued dogs. Take your time and establish trust. By speaking in a soft and calm tone of voice and gently rubbing the belly a fearful dog will know that being on its back is a positive experience and not a punishment.

Be patient as it is often difficult and slow to train a rescued dog. They are often older dogs, mixed, and with difficult temperaments which makes training more challenging. Hang in there. Your perseverance will pay off.

Don’t feel sorry for the dog. Training can be hindered by doing this. You will want to be loving and caring when appropriate but still be in control. Be a pack leader and let the dog know that you are in charge.
